Simpsons Comics #97
Posted on June 10, 2005 |

Feud,
Glorious Feud! The title of this particular comic basically
sets the tone for the story. Quite entertaining plot indeed.
As soon as you open this comic book, you would think Apu is
taking over The Simpsons. This isn't the case. It's a 'fake'
dress up-as-your neighbour party to get the townsfolk in one
area for a special surprise.
Thus, this 'special surprise' does not go according to plan and
sends Flanders to the world of 'la la land'. Following his
little hallucinations, Flanders goes on a little trip leaving
The Simpsons with new neighbours.
Without giving too much away (too late for that), as the story
title implies... A feud develops between Homer and their new
neighbour -- with an all out paint ball skirmish mayhem! The fun
doesn't stop there. A little romance occurs in this issue as
well.
One of the characters in The Simpsons household falls in love
with one of the members from the opposite household. Is it Lisa?
Marge? Or even Maggie that falls in love? Since all is fair in
love and war, does their love blossom? Or not?
Towards the end of this comic, a shocking surprise unfolds, and
what a twist is it. Eventually, Flanders comes back and he too
gets attack in the war of skirmish!
Since this is one of the more earlier comics I would think this
issue would rank pretty high in the graphics and presentation
department. Although it does, it falls just a little bit short
in a few areas.
The comic is equipped with a well done linear presentation
feature. All boxes are in place, nothing coming out and is
pre-pared as a package for you. Even the cover art is done pretty well. Though the drawings of a few characters and
minor details of a few backgrounds could have been improved.
Graphics are again highly drawn and coloured in the majority of
the comic. But in a few boxes character's eyes are not
connected, a small black dot appears in a box and colours could
have been a bit more brighter. All these are small flaws and
they don't ruin the feel of the comic at all, they can be overlooked.
The story is done well and everything follows a logical
order. Very entertaining and hilarious at times. Each chapter
and sequence of the story is linked and connected well to
establish the foundations of the twists and surprises ahead.
Keeping in mind that this is a monthly issue, this comic is a
must for fans that love a good tale.
