Bongo Working on Simpsons Art Book?
That's right, Bongo working on a hard-cover book called 'Art
of the Simpsons', sources indicate from Bongo creative director
Bill Morrison. Bongo not only publish Simpsons comic
books, but they also handle a range of many other creative work
on other Simpsons goods, such as calendars and episode guide
books.
The art book is still in it's preliminary stage and release date
is unknown, it's set to be published by HarperCollins.
It's been said that it might turn out to be a large coffee table
books featuring art work that has gone into creating the hit TV
series and probably other Simpsons works.
"We haven't decided what we're going to limit it to. It will be
mostly the TV show. But we may feature chapters on merchandise
and comics and a lot of additional stuff," Morrison says.
"It's a project we're just initiating now. I think it's going to
be a big job."
Very exciting news with reference to the comics. I would imagine
this art book would take you through the process of how one
issue is made which will be very entertaining.
Furthermore, Morrison says that the long-delayed "Homer's Guide
to Being a Man" has been postponed for at least another year.
Designed as a sequel to the 1990 book "Bart's Guide to Life,"
Bongo held up the Homer guide to make sure the content was as
witty as the first book, Morrison says. "We weren't really happy
with the direction it was going in, and wanted to take some time
to rethink it. So it sort of got put on the back burner for a
while. We're going to open it back up," he says.
Sunday Simpsons Comic Strip Reprint?
Wouldn't this be an ideal gift for Simpsons comic lovers.
Bill Morrison says a reprint of the Sunday Simpsons comic strip
is in the works.
"We'll probably be doing a soft-cover book that collects, if
I'm not mistaken, the entire run," Morrison says. Expectations
of this reprint will prove to be extremely popular as many
collectors will jump off their seats to get their paws on this
one.
In fact, the strip has struggled a bit after initially appearing
in about 50 newspapers, losing at least four in a controversy
over a violent Itchy & Scratchy strip that appeared around
Christmas. "We're working on a relaunch (of the Sunday strip).
Although it's still being published in a few papers around the
country, we're not producing any new ones at this point,"
Morrison says. He didn't say when the comic strip reprint will
appear.
Morrison says there are no plans to reprint in book form the
Simpsons Illustrated magazines from the early 1990s. "I know
Welsh (Publishing) is out of business. They were swallowed up by
Marvel Comics at one point some years back."
However, lets hope they do make a reprint of the Simpsons
Illustrated magazines, no doubt it will be a treat for all
Simpson fans.
Retrospective: 2003 - 10 Years of Bongo Comics!
You might have noticed the 10th year anniversary logo on the
cover of issues #81 and so on. That's because Matt Groening's comic-book company is celebrating its 10th
anniversary.

If you remember or have #81 of Simpsons Comics, inside this
issue there is an editorial from creative director Bill
Morrison, explaining the origin of Bongo and why Groening didn't
leak the Simpsons to some other third-party comic company.
"Now, Matt had been getting offers from other comic book
companies to license our favourite TV family since the show
began, but the idea of putting the Simpsons into the hands of
strangers just didn't seem right," Morrison writes. "And so, he
decided to fulfil a childhood dream and start his own comic book
company!"
The editorial also includes a couple of photos from the first
Simpsons comic book signing.
