Walking Via 'The Roman Road'

Allow yourself about 3 hours plus time on summits |
From Brecon town centre travel west over the USK BRIDGE into Llanfaes.
Take the 2nd turn left, almost opposite the ESSO garage.
Follow and cross over Mini-Roundabout, keep to this road for about 2.5 miles
Turn
right at “T” Junction and follow this road on up past
BAILEA FARM (Grid Ref. SO 039241)
Note: The road endsAbout 300 yards past
the farm house.
Park on the grass verge making sure that you are WELL OFF THE ROAD to allow for farm tractors and any other traffic to pass.
If there is no room, there is a small Pull-Off back down the road, on your right, just below the farm. (Grid Ref. SO 039244)
From
here walk back up past farm to end of road.
From the end of the road, continue straight on, along the farm track, after a short distance you will come to a gate.
Go through gate and follow the main pathway
along the Eastern (left) side of
BRYN
TEG
This is the old ROMAN ROAD, which was the route used by shepherds to drive their Sheep from Brecon to Merthyr Tydfil.
Sometimes,
you may still just be lucky and meet a shepherd with dogs, driving a flock
of sheep over this pass.
Follow
this track about 2 miles, until the highest point -
is reached. (Grid Ref. SO 032207)
Turn right and follow path up a steep incline.
From the summit of Crybin there is a fine view of Pen-y-Fan’s north face.
You
can, if the time and weather allows, walk on a further 1 mile, to the summit
of Pen-y-Fan, by following the obvious
pathway along the ridge to your left.
| Return the way you came, OR, if you have ayou STEADY NERVE, scramble down the 'Snout' on the North side. |

This route will take you straight back to the gate at the bottom, and back to the road.
