Updates between Spring and Fall 2000

Barrett, Nathan
Nathan checked in from New York City where he lives, works, and sees lots of ASIJers. He writes, "I'm going to see Daniel Fish over July 4th in Montana for the Fish's biannual ASIJ Reunion Beer Festival. If only all reunions were beer festivals...it should be Good Times!" Nathan is really looking forward to meeting up with lots of old friends and even some teachers at the festival. Information on the Fish's "Third Biannual International Beer Festival" can be found on page 38 of the Spring 2000 ambassador. If you've already trashed your magazine...drop me an email and I can give you the details. Definitely sounds like it'll be a fun time to me!
Edman, Jesper
Jesper used the brand new, handy dandy, so simple a monkey could figure it out, Class of 1993 webpage update form to say he has returned to the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden. He writes, "I'm back after having spent 14 months in Tokyo studying economics at Hitotsubashi University. I had the chance to hang out with Brian Stolz, Kin-ei Lin, as well as Riki Hudachek and some other alums that are back in Tokyo." Jesper anticipates being in school till at least December, finishing off his degree (in what I have no idea) and writing his master thesis. Thanks for the update and for checking out the webpage Jesper!
Ferguson, Kristian
Kristian wrote me a quick email to let us all know how things are going in Northern Virginia. He writes, "I am still living in Fairfax...now working as a consultant for GBB (Gershman, Brickner, and Bratton). We are an environmental waste reduction firm that specializes in recycling, reuse, composting, volume reduction, landfilling, and expert witness. The job is wonderful and gives me the opportunity to travel as well as help cities/states reduce waste, protect the environment and recycle more." Sounds like a super rewarding job to me! Kristian also wanted everyone to know that his brother, Jeff '90, recently graduated from a joint Euro-NATO training program at Sheppard Air Force Base and will now be flying the A-10 "Warthog" aircraft. Thanks for the update and keep in touch Kristian!
Fish, Daniel
I got a nice quick email from Mr. Fish to let us all know that Daniel has moved to Oregon. He writes, "Daniel is in his last quarter of Computer Graphics at the University of Oregon. He'll probably only be there for three months or so." So, act quickly if you're looking to get in touch with Daniel...hopefully he'll let us all know where he's headed and what his plans are after graduation. Best of luck!
Fry-Hale, Karen
Karen wrote me the nicest email two weeks ago which I promptly read, took some notes on, and accidently deleted. I'll be the first to admit that when people are talking about me, the words "computer" and "savvy" are never in the same sentence. I know that the contact info is correct, but everything else in this update is coming from my notes (bad source) and memory (worse source). I apologize in advance for any glaring errors and/or omissions...Karen and her husband, Jason, bought a house last October in the "booming metropolis" of Tomball, Texas where she works as a contractor for Compaq. She recently got a miniature schnauzer and is experiencing the bite of the "travel bug" really bad - no idea if those two events are related or not. Karen hopes to travel more in the next few years and make a trip to visit Japan! Thanks for the update...I promise not to trash the next one.
Lam Pak Ng, Nicolas
Nick dropped me a quick line from Chicago to say he has switched jobs...well sorta. He writes, "I joined the spin-off between Deloitte Consulting/BroadVision/WPP back in June. The change was not really a change in company because I was working with the same people...I just recently started a new job doing similar technology implementation, but more exciting technology stuff with Diamond Technology Partners." Nick also wanted everyone to know that his company recently merged with Cluster Consulting from Europe, and is now called Diamond Cluster International. I thought that was a pretty creative name for a bunch of techno-geeks. Of course, I say that with the upmost respect and understanding that you probably make about three times as much money as I do. Thanks for the update and keep in touch Nick!
Nakayama, Mayumi
Mayumi checked in from California to let us all know she is still planning to relocate with her parents and daughter to Hawaii in the near future. She writes, "We have a place that we will definitely be calling our own instead of renting someone else's property. I am quite excited...or rather, ecstatic about this condo - it has quite a view from all of the windows." Mayumi also wrote a little about the new man in her life, "I have just started to see someone on a fairly serious basis. He is (like you all suspected) in the U.S. Marines and I don't want to hear anything about that...I am guessing this could be the man of my dreams." Hope things continue to go well with him after the move Mayumi! Erica Update: "She is another one in the family who is quite ecstatic about the movie to Hawaii...as far as she is concerned, she wants to be a hula dancer!" Mayumi wants everyone to know that anyone passing through Hawaii has a place to stay...best of luck with the move and let us know when you're settled in your new home!
Riedy, Mike
Mike recently moved to Boulder, Colorado and is now working for GE Access selling "complex" computer solutions. Well, they're all complex to me Mike. He writes, "I got an apartment with my brother three blocks from work and it is pretty cool to walk out and see the mountains right in front of my face." Sounds like a nice little pad to me. Thanks for the update Mike and be sure to say "hi" to all the South Park kids for me.
Smith, Kawika
Kawika wrote me from the class webpage to let us all know about his very cool sounding job with Roder USA. He writes, "I am putting up huge tents for different events: PGA tournaments, ATP tennis tournaments, NASA/Space Foundation, and the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake." Kawika was recently in Colorado Springs where he had dinner with Shana (McIllwain) Leeper, the first time he saw someone from the class in seven years! Kawika also had some much deserved props for Katie Sakuma, our wonderful class webmaster, "Great job on the webpage!" Thanks for the update Kawika and thanks for the webpage Katie!
Tada, Haruna
Haruna was nice enough to give us some pictures which should hopefully be on the class webpage soon. She also has a new address (see above) for her homepage, which is very cool by the way. She writes, "I'm getting rid of my old account in a few weeks to save $20 a month. I'm preparing myself to become a poor student again :)" After working eight months at Lucent Technologies, Haruna is headed back to Tufts in August for a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. I guess some people are just gluttons for punishment...good luck with school Haruna!
